Crusader Soccer Moves to #1

With a strong beginning to the season, beating BASIS-Ahwatukee 5-0 and Az Cultural Academy 8-2, the Crusaders moved to the top of the Soccer rankings after previously top ranked Sonoran Science was beaten by EdOptions Nogales on Tuesday. EdOptions took advantage of their home field to beat the Sonoran Eagles 7-2 in their only game so far this season. The win moves them into 3rd place in the rankings.

The Crusaders, meanwhile, solidified their case for the top spot by handily beating Arizona Cultural Academy. Six different Crusaders scored in the 8-2 romp, with Eli Benedetti netting a hattrick in the match. While it’s early in the season and only 11 of the 19 Division 1 teams have played a game, it’s clear that it’s another strong season for Coach B and his Crusaders.

The boys are hopeful that the slightly cooler weather on Tuesday will bring a bigger crowd for their match against 91st Psalm at the Scottsdale Sports Complex. However, the first Friday night match on Sept 8 against Tri-City Christian at Chaparral Park should prove to be a big event, as the Friday night games always draw a great crowd.
